Don’t expect to be driving through fields of yellow fruit. This town isn’t named for bananas but in fact after something much wilder. Imagine it’s the 1860’s and you’re a stockman who makes his living… dangerously. You and your mates hunt down bullocks, or the wild cattle, that are causing grief for local farmers.

Luckily for you, you have the help of a pale-yellow coloured bullock, you’ve lovingly called ‘Banana’.

Inexplicably Banana loves nothing more than to help you herd the wild bullocks into holding yards. And that’s how Banana, the township, got its name. It’s a great place to stop and soak in the history of the pioneering cemetery on the hill behind town. Or just stop by the playground for a driving break
